Default What are the intentions of Christians at this forum [BCH]?

I look forward to reading replies from readers.

I've often wondered the same thing. Don't they feel like they are wasting their time? I don't go to Christian message boards and post (although it can be fun to read them) because I know I would be wasting my time.

I look forward to seeing BC&H discussed on the BC&H forum, rather than the motivations of posters, which, as near as I can see, is a rather flagrant violation of the ToS.

Regards,
Rick Sumner

I hope that the moderators and the administrators disagree with you. If the Bible is true, then the motives of God and the motives of humans are of paramount importance. If the Bible is not true, the more that you understand about a Christian's motives, the better you will able to respond to what he says. I am quite curious why some Christians and skeptics at this forum devote entire lengthy threads to discussing issues that are of no consequence whatsoever no matter who proves their point. In some threads I don't make posts because I do not have any idea whatsoever what is being said, and I am sure that 99.99% of humanity wouldn't either. Are such threads a search for truth or a search for trivia?

What do you mean by "this forum"?

IIDB in general, or just BC&H ?

If it's the former, I'd agree with Rick - this would better fit into GRD.

I have yet to find a better means in life to motivate me to learn than to discuss a subject with another person. I can read on my own but I may overlook something that could only be brought to my attention had I been discussing it with an actual person who may disagree with me- or simply had a different education or past experience etc.
I do not think that there is any better way to learn and it is very rewarding to discover new perspectives to issues in this way- even if they seem trivial to some. I myself do not like crossword puzzles because the point is to finish them but once done what really was accomplished? Some just call it an excersise of the mind...this perhaps may be what a good dialectic is...Such discussions certainly do not hurt one's ability to express themselves in other venues in life, such as the workplace or at the dinner table with family and friends. It almost just becomes a hobby.
Maybe I am alone here but that is just my two cents...

I mean this forum. I already know that most posters at the GRD forum are trying to convince people to accept or reject Christianity in particular, or religion in general. I debate there a lot. What I am curious about is whether the same is true at this forum. For instance, is the very nice, likeable, and scholarly Andrew Criddle trying to use his arguments at least partly to convince people to become Christians, or is he simply presenting his views about the Bible because he finds it to be interesting? Now we don't have to wonder what Lee Merrill's and bfniii's motives are, and that makes discussing issues with them a lot easier because we know where they are coming from.

I am not sure that everyone at this forum realizes that there is a war of ideas going on in this country, and how people interpret the Bible is the source of the war. It seems that some readers on both sides assume that this forum is no more than a friendly tea party. There is in fact nothing friendly about telling a person that if he is not a Christian, he deserves to go to hell regardless of his character.

Posting his question here is reasonable if he wants the views of Christians from this part of the board.
