Default A/historicity of Moses and Israelite slaves

In watching Penn and Teller's Bullshit episode on the Bible, I was reminded of the claim I've often heard that neither Moses, nor the idea of Israelite slaves in Egypt, are based in history.

So, intrigued, I finally decided to search around to see if this was actually true. And the only source for historicity I could find was that Josephus wrote:

Now I know for one thing that Josephus was writing around about 90AD, so he's not exactly contemporary. But was he sourcing from contemporary evidence, or just taking assumptions from the Torah?

And is there any other alleged / actual historical evidence for either Moses or the story of Exodus?

If you run a search with "Exodus" in a thread title, you will be able to review the ground that has already been covered. Repeatedly.

For example:

Motivation for fabricating an Exodus?

Archaeohistorical Exodus gains credibility

From where comes the Exodus story?

Well that shows my searching skills to be utterly wanting. I only tried searching for "Moses"...

Thanks for the links. G** only knows how I might have messed up if I'd tried finding them myself

OK folks, nothing to see here. Move along now.
