"Anyone who works on the sabbath must be put to death." (Exodus)

Imagine how many televangelists we could get rid of if we actually carried out this commandment.

Only if you can call what they do "work."

The huge number of things, most of them socially irrelevant, for which, according to Lv and Dt, one has to be stoned to death.

There's no question if Hollywood or whomever was to make a literal movie of the bible, they'd be hard-pressed to get a single x.
Not that its germane to the discussion, but there's actually no such thing as an XXX rating. Only X-rated. Triple X is just a marketing ploy (hey, check this out; its super-raunchy).

I think I may have just confessed to knowing more about pornography than I care to admit:angel:

People genuinely endeavor to get closer to God for the purpose of getting closer to God because he's God, the only thing worth getting closer to in the whole universe. The result:
From the horses mouth...
""And the Lord said, "The man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.""

"After he drove man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life."

Either God is terribly afraid of being outcast if he engages in peer relationships or it is a really terrible thing to be like God, which begs the question on both points, "Why would we worship this being?"

So people still want to get closer to God for the purpose of getting closer to God... they build a tower in earnest (symbollic of doing something to get closer to God)...

""In seeing this God declares, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.""

Wow! People can actually achieve perfect goodness! Let's see what God does...

"Come let's go down and confuse their language so that they will not understand each other."

WTF!!! once for the God of the Bible
WTF!!! twice for those who see no problem whatsoever with these passages
I think the reason why this is so WTF is that us moderns are brought up with a significantly more "refined" image of God than the Iron Age authors who wrote these passages.

On that note, my favorite WTF moment is the behavior of everyone involved, including Jeremiah, in Jeremiah 36:

Jeremiah: Doom, doom, doom, doom!

Jehoiakim: I don't like this guy. Let's burn his writings.

Jeremiah: What! I'll just rewrite the scroll, but this time with even more doom!

Default here's one for the feminists

I Cor 14:34-35

34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.
35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

Jesus Christ's cursing that fig tree for not having any figs for him when he was hungry, even though it was out of season for figs. We are told that that fig tree died as a result.

I found that extremely shocking when I first read that -- that seemed EXTREMELY immature.

I also found Romans 13 bizarre. Paul claimed that government leaders are God's lieutenants and should be obeyed without question. And Paul was talking about a government whose official religion he considered pagan idolatry.

And I was startled by the part that said that God had shown that the wisdom of the world is foolishness.

And I thought that the Book of Revelation seemed like some big drug trip.

Maybe this is why they hold church on Sunday instead of Saturday?

Public school choir I was in sang "Jericho" for a concert in six grade.
Talk about a WTF moment when I learned the full story. I HATE that song now.:banghead:

One of mine is in Revelations where God will supposedly release Satan to wreak more havoc AFTER a 1000-year reign of peace. Why the fuck would he do that???

Another one is in 2 Peter where it claims that the fallen angels are bound in a pit until judgment day. This of course directly contradicts numerous bible passages and the blatherings of fundies about Satan and his band of demons running around in the world.
