Default Plagues and Trivial killing in the OT

On page 325 of 'Rebuilding the Matrix;, Denis Alexander writes 'This creation of the world out of a murder does not bode too well for what is to follow, and ,all-in-all, the gods continue to act like a murderous bunch of thugs, sending vicious plagues onto humankind for trivial offences like making too much noise and forcing them to be their slaves.'

Why should Christians have one set of standards for one religion and another set of standards for their own religion?

What is the difference between the gods Alexander disapproves of and the god Alexander approves of, the one who incinerates two people in Leviticus for lighting a fire from the wrong source of flames?

That was because they offered their created version of an offering, inwhich G-d did not ask for. They were to follow only G-d's instructions, not make up their own.

A command the NT strongly ignores, with many of jesus' instuctions and his sacrifice.

How else do you propose a literalist rejects other religions but accepts their own without double standards and special pleading?

I outlined a very idiotic blinder by God here on the cursing of snakes in addition to several others on my site. This is just one instance amongst many of the blatant stupidity of Biblical literalism.

OR the God who hardens a pharoahs heart and send a plague to kill innocent children because of it.....

Rebuilding the Matrix

Quote:
The matrix is a theistic framework for bringing science back to its historical origins and provides justification for both a high view of scientific knowledge and a solid basis for human values. The conclusion is that Christians need not be fearful of nor hostile toward scientific endeavor.

Reviewer: A reader from Canada
This book is at its best when describing the interaction of science and religion over time. However when trying to justify Christianity as a reasonable way to view reality (ultimate or otherwise) the book falls flat. The author like many of his ilk tries to fall back on a line of thinking which is kind of like "because science doesn't know everything about everything you should therefore accord my worldview a certain legitimacy by default".
The book appears to be aimed shoring up the faith of a Christian audience. It looks like Bede's cup of tea. I assume the question in the OP was rhetorical.
