Default Bible as a text book

I was going to post this in C/SS but hey they are too serious!

So it looks like they are teaching the bible in class

Here is my question, if you were using the bible as a "text book" what would you teach from it?
Morals? History? How to smite your enemies?

Well, indeed! Shouldn't they also be teaching as textbook the Koran, the Baghavad Gita, the Satanic Bible, et al?

Influence on world events and history. I think I understate things by saying it's had quite an impact.

The problem is that the book itself does not have those things in it. Its impact would have to be studied in a text book about the bible.

I think it would be good if they talked about how they think the bible was written; many authors, a mish mash of history and myth and other stories.

I would focus on a history of a vengeful god in the old testament, and the atrocities committed therein, now that would be a cool class.:devil3:

They should teach what you would learn in any introduction to NT college class, and make it an elective obviously. There would need to be classes for other holy works as well, of course.

When my wife was in sixth grade, her batshit crazy teacher had the kids bring in Bibles so they could learn about Egypt. I shit you not. Of course, her atheist parents put a stop to it.

More and more it looks more like an excellent text book on medicine and platonic alchemic beliefs - bread and water into flesh and blood is serious two thousand year old biology and chemistry.

It is too easy to dismiss it as superstition. All humans have always attempted to find patterns, to join up the dots. It is fascinating to look at the myriad different ways there are to join up the dots, especially when you do not have much to start with!
