But Simcha's rich already. If he had invested a bunch of his money in the stock market after the crash it would have doubled by now. He's an artist or a storyteller. All storytellers embellish

So? The mob can't be controlled. There is no point even trying to elevate them. Think of the manner in which writing deteriorated once everyone was taught to read. I remember when I was really into Montaigne, the impression he left on his readers how much he treasured books. You get that sense from ancient writers too. The greatest refutation of a universal God is the existence of so many f---- stupid people. What do you do with them all? Make f----- stupid television programming. It's either Simcha's brand of stupid or Mark Goodacre's.
Personally, I go for the less pretentious brand of stupid. They always go after Simcha because he pretends to have academic credentials. But isn't it worse when you find out that someone has a PhD and written countless academic books all for the purpose of 'rescuing' a two thousand year old fable from post-modernism. Why is it that all the pack animals are set upon the guy who is the most vulnerable? Why not set the dogs on another one of these bibliobloggers who claims that Mark was written between the late 30s and early 40s CE or any of the other nutty beliefs that are harbored by academics. Want to know why? Older than greed - jealousy is the original sin. Le ressentiment issu du cœur |
