At 11:23 it states even though the reforms of King Josiah monotheism still wasn't fully accepted.
It does state that during the period of second Isaiah that the bible is redacted again towards monotheism with the P source. 14:18 states at 600 BC monotheism was born. "Born" and fully accepted by all of the people of Israel are 4 different things. http://religiousstudiesblog.blogspot...onotheism.html It seems plausible that the episode that sealed the transformation of traditional Yahwism into monotheistic Judaism was the shattering experience of the Babylonian Exile (587-538 BC). Prior to this, however, much headway in the direction of monotheism had been made by the Deuteronomic movement and its supporter King Josiah (reigned 641-609). http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/ancient...rew-bible.html Monotheism was a late development. Not until the Babylonian Exile and beyond does Israelite and Judean religion—Judaism—become monotheistic. This is Dever on the topic pointing out that there was no specific time period, Exile and "beyond" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History...rael_and_Judah A number of scholars believe that Monotheism emerged among the priests of the Temple establishment during the seventh and sixth centuries BCE Again no one time period. Do you really doubt that because the government instituted monotheism after 622, BC that it took hold instantly?, or did it take hundreds of years for beliefs of other deities followed for 600+ years to take effect?. |

That's not exactly what the narrator of the video says.
Please identify the source for this video, and the source for this statement before you go on. |

The vid states monotheism was "born" does it not? When monotheism started, do you think it was 100% accepted because the government said it was the new imposed deity? |

Karen Armstrong did not put up the video. The words of those of a youtube activist, not Armstrong's.
You can preview the book online at History of God (or via: amazon.co.uk). Perhaps you could find a more exact citation for what you claim? |

Karen is not a scholar either so your point is invalid. He states he followed her work. Have you found something different then Karen's view? I also stated from the start that "for the most part" this vid is correct. I personally have found a few mistakes in it. Doesn't mean it is not a great vid, nor devoid of historical accuracies. I also provided separate authorities backing the view I posited |

Mistakes in the vid are off topic, that is not what this debate is about.
I posted it because it gives a semi accurate view of the evolution of monotheism. Which is only one aspect of Judaism's history, that J_D was addressing. |
