But the people making those calls weren't true Christians.

No, the real difference is that the Muslims take their religion seriously.

Thumbs down

While I can understand how some religious people are upset and angered over the new (and likely short lived) ruiling, going to this extreme to wish the most vile things on someone because of their beliefs is the most despicable and distasteful thing a person can do.

In any case, the Christians who feel this way should direct their fire at the judges, not the atheist.

And especially not his daughter, for Christ's sake...

Being pissed at Newdow is one thing, but hoping that his young daughter, still in grade school, burns forever and ever... that is one of the most evil, mean-spirited, disgusting things I have ever read.
But his daugheter is also, asumed by the media, an atheist. Can never get more of those to burn in hell forever. Damn atheists trying to take over our godly government.

Sure, if she is an atheist she will go to hell, but that smug prick doesn't have to hope for it...

Exclamation

I don't know the actual percentage of the citizenry that are genuinely pissed about this whole thing, but just consider what we've been seeing from the media recently and what we've heard for years from Christian apologists about how most Christians are moderate, tolerant, peaceful, cheerful sheep, er, people.

Considering this decision doesn't actually affect religious freedom at all, doesn't this seem like an excessive amount of vitrol? Isn't this scenario what freethinkers have always said leads to persecution? A court decision that appears to strike at a deeply held tenet of a belief system; the irrational belief that said belief system is being somehow harmed, despite the unarguable fact that it isn't; the mass reaction fueled by pure emotion and total lack of reason?

I don't actually think this signals the beginning of the Fourth Reich, but what is a pissed off majority capable of? And is there actually a majority pissed off enough to seriously harm some civil rights?
