Let me play Devil's (or christ's) advocate
No no no, you have it all wrong. All those crimes were perpetrated by humans who didn't understand God. A True Christian (tm) would never do that. In fact, a True Christian (tm) never does anything wrong because he's got the HolySpiritThankYouJesusMmmHmmm. You should remember that all those people who perpetrate inhumane crimes embarassing to xtianity are Not True Christians (tm).

Is the world really going to hell?
It’s interesting to note in this chain email the common Christian assumption that the world is, in fact, going to hell. It’s always astonshing to me that this group of people who center their lives around two thousand year old mythology fail to notice how awful the social situations described in “The Bible” were. What time period are they using as a reference point when they describe this supposed decay of civilization? A hundred years ago? Five hundred? A thousand? Ten thousand? Clearly the bad things (such as war, disease and starvation) have coexisted with the good for all of human civilization. This Christian notion that the world is going to hell only serves to demonstrate how inherently negative the foundations of this supposedly “positive” worldview really are.
If anything, I think we’re lucky to be living in the twenty-first century. At least we have antibiotics and toothbrushes. |
