Default Help needed plz

For history class we r required to write a short term paper about events of 20 century US. My current topic is the rise of the New Right with the fundamentalist movement of the 80's and 90's, but that seems a bit dry. So if anyone has any interesting topics, regarding politics (prefered), or anything else for that matter, your help is most welcome.

The suppressal of dissent during WW1 (i.e.Espionage Act, which was used to club all sorts of non espionage dissent) and the role of private interest groups like the APL (American Protective League) in purging reformers from political/economic positions and participation, Councils of Defense/Public Safety Councils (there were nearly 190 000 of these organized by the government, the were sets of citizen spies who spied on fellow Americans, and in one case a member murdered someone for allegedly backing the Germans, and was applauded by the local council, politicians, media, etc), the attacks on the Non Partisan Leage (reformist farmers, who government agencies attacked, literally, at meetings), attacks on labor unions, the Phelps-Dodge incident (striking miners in Arizona, many Mexican Americans and/or socialists were taken captive by private thugs and held in the desert without proper supplies, in the name of patriotism), paranoia/anger inducing propaganda from the government to keep this atmosphere alive, etc...

Buy this book: Lies My Teacher Told Me

And/or this one: Lies Across America, both by James Loewen.

Excellent books on the real history of the US.
