I was working with a lady today, whom I've known all my life and was my boss in High School. Yes I'm working at the same diner I worked at as a teen and swore I would never go back...
![]() Anyway, she asked if my Aunt had talked me into taking our daughter to Sunday School yet(she's a member of my families church) and I told her that my Aunt has been nagging me about it but I am not sending our daughter to Sunday School because I'm a non-believer and my husband is a half-assed believer and our daughter is being raised Atheist. I waited for the ball to drop when she leaned across the table and said, "my Jim(her husband) isn't much of a believer and I believe in a god but not the church or the bible. It's all too political and I think that folks should be able to believe, or not believe in anything they want." Then we got busy and was no longer able to talk about the subject again but I felt pretty good. Mostly about her because her kids never miss church and their kids are in every church organization and I just assumed that she was super religious. Her sister-in-law is a member of the Christian Coalition(her hubby's sister) and I thought they all felt the same way. Boy was I wrong! ![]() |

Hello ! I am glad you shared that experience with all of us. It demonstrate that we should not trust appearances and perceptions of others. That sincerety will prevail. You also presented your position without being critical of what you believed was that lady's position in terms of spiritual life. And that made you a winner!

I love it !!
I got a similar response from a neighbor, whose husband is a minister (I didn't know that at the time). At a party last year, somehow, the topic of religiosity came up. She declared, "It's not about religion, it's about spirituality, a relationship with God." I thought [ugh. that again!] So I took a deep breath and made some half-assed remark that I didn't really go in for the God stuff at all. To which she said something to the effect of, "Ah, who cares, you're a good person, right?" [Wow, a xian who thinks belief is optional!] We are getting to be very good neighbors. Me and the minister's wife! ![]() |
