Yeah, guys, I'm sorry.

I didn't know President Clinton was impeached. I just thought impeached meant kicked out of office.

I know the war killed many civilians as well as it did soldiers, at least in an optimistic point of view of this, most of the Iraqi people are happy now.

Impeachment is unlikely but this whole WMD Intelgate could snowball enough for Bush to be voted out next year, which is the more realistic scenario.

That's not "optimistic," it's "completely delusional." There's a lack of law and order, so criminals are running wild, people are mourning their dead, there's a lack of running water and electricity, there are no clear prospects for Iraqi self rule in the near future, wages are not being paid, the country's archeological heritage has been stolen, rumors (not totally unfounded) are spreading that the foreign troops will shoot civilians without good reason, various groups are threatening violence, the health system is in a shambles, etc.

Keep telling yourself that.

The one fatal flaw in this comparison is that the Republicans didn't go after Clinton for lying, they went after him for perjury. As much as I like the idea of Bush going on trial over the Iraq war, I doubt it will happen...

Moreover, the Republicans nailed Clinton on a very specific lie -- how many times did we have to listen to "I did not have sexual relations..."? I think if Bush had an equivalent soundbite, any sort of impeachment proceedings might get more steam. But I think his handlers are a bit too crafty for that. They've shifted the issue so many times, from WMD to "Iraqi freedom" to al-Qaeda to terrorism to Israel that it's hard to fight back. It's like the mythical hydra. Even if you cut off the "WMD" head, the "remember 9/11" one will grow right back in its place.

Worse, I think Bush still has the advantage of low expectations. We've become so used to his gaffes that his major misstatements (aka "lies") get shuffled into the same category as "putting food on your family" -- a gee-shucks kind of mistake that nobody takes seriously because nobody expects any better. Which is really shameful when you consider this is the farking president, but then, I've thought this since Bush started his bloody campaign.

Default vindication

Does this mean that those of us who claimed that Shrub was a lying sack of shit, and opposed the "war" every step of the way are finally being vindicated?

The Iraqi people are happy??
Obviously you don't know the area. Happy for what??
For having been bombed, raped mugged, robbed.
Happy for witnessing a perfectly good health system being destroyed??
Happy for witnessing a perfectly good educational system being destryed??
Happy for withnessing a secular society going back to the middle ages with the mullah's in power.
Happy for seing their heritage stolen and carried away??
Ho, I forgot they are FREE now. Free to do what?? Hide in their houses. Free to live in fear?? Do you really think there has been an improvement since the war?? Which planet are you from??
I cannot believe that a crime like this will go unpunished.

Ok. Let's say we can't impeach Bush for lying...

Can we recall the election of Bush

(same as the Republicans are trying for Gray Davis) ???

Bush didn't even win the popular vote and definitely not the majority of the ballots in Florida that voters intended to cast.

Monkeybot: I certianly dont' think impeachment will happen, but if you read the article he points out several good soundbites where bush states declaratively that he has knowledge of chemical weapons and bio weapons in iraq.
