And, likewise, you could always go down to the bank at 1:30 am and ask the guard to give you access to the vault. If you can gain his trust and he lets you in, then it's obviously A-OK to rob that bank. After all, the guard let you in!

then again we should focus on the janitor, not the cop.

Arrow

It takes two to tango.

They both erred.

One abused his authority to commit a misdemeanor.

well ronin, i think they'll get it all figured out.
i still think that focusing on the cop or even the janitor was a tactical mistake on the school's part. makes them come off as a bit defensive over the material that was photographed instead of being secure in its appropriateness.

Thumbs up

The school officials and police are focused on the circumstances of the incident.

'The Cop', 'The Janitor' and 'The Material Photographed' are simply the stated elements of the investigation.

They are not 'tactical' elements.

The perspective that the incident should be based on emotion/politics rather than facts/circumstances, speaks more toward viewer bias that either defends or berates the misdemeanor crime alleged in the article.

Way to miss the point, as usual.

Just to spell it out for you: a bank guard does not have authority to let you into their bank just because he trusts you, or likes you, or you're wearing a cop uniform.

Similarly, a janitor does not have the authority to let someone into the school just because he trusts you, or likes you, or you're wearing a cop uniform.

how is the cop's need for assistence illigitimate?
Way to avoid the question!!

The need for assistance is illegitimate because he had no private or official business in that OR any classroom at 1:30 am for the purposes he expressed. He doesn't like what that teacher was teaching - so what!

As a member of society who finds such things, as this person/cop did to be both illegal and immoral it is very unlikely that I would engage in a similar action. So please do report back to us when you have entered an unlocked door of a public school, and as a plain clothed civilian asked a janitor to unlock a classroom door so you can do whatever and let us know how that all goes. You will probably be without internet access for a while as it is my guess that you will likely be detained by certain law enforcement authorities, or perhaps someone will send us a press clipping about your after hours school entry. However I find it more likely that you aren't willing to put your money where your mouth is so to speak and will be keeping a safe distance from any public institution that isn't opened to the public at 1:30 am.
