Yes. But I was making reference to emotional's constant claim that his beliefs were irrational.
Hmmmmm, I see.

Do you?

On the contrary. It is because I have lived an incredibly full life - even though only 43 - that I no longer fear death. As I lay on my death bed (or as I drop my bike and slide under the wheels of the beer truck) I will feel that I have left nothing undone.
I've lived in three countries, shagged beautiful women, eaten the world's best food, seen an Everest sunrise, two total eclipses, an exploding meteor, ridden the twisties, and on and on and on. So it has to end? So what? Does it bother you so much when you read "Fini" at the end of a good book?

Good man! I'm right there with you brother. Sometimes when I'm in one of my rare nostalgic moods I look back on my life and I'm stunned at all the things I've managed to fit into 36 years. If my future is anything like my past, I'm gonna have a lot more fun before I'm fertilizer.

Treasures in heaven my ass!

Death isn't just the end of existence. Its also the end of fear, pain, and uncertainty.

And the end of joy, pleasure, and discovery. It cuts both ways, and the thought of losing the good things seems to far outweigh the thought of losing the bad things.

Have you managed to come to grips with the fact of your non-existence before you were born?

It will be just like that after you die.

I've heard that many times, and it still doesn't comfort me.

You had no experience of life before you were born, so it isn't something taken from you. Dying, on the other hand, is a taking away of something existing. I could hardly bear thinking of life if I lost my eyesight or one of my hands; all the more so losing everything.

My fear of death doesn't come alone; it is always accompanied by a feeling of dizziness in my head. That's why I think it must be a neurological rather than a psychological problem, however much it may masquerade as a psychological one.
