However, I believe too that there is no evidence of the existence or non existence of God. So I take every theist and atheist position as theories concerning their non belief or belief of the existence of God. I am actually being fair, and factual. I guess you have to reread the very first line of the post where you got the quote above. and if you disagree with me, then I tell you, who is decietful. |

Even the theists on this board argue about what it is they mean when they say "God". So, before you can really start talking about evidence for or against, you need to know what you are talking about in the first place. Quote:
I have heard some of these theories, and though I may not be able to fully discount them, I haven't really found any of them to be very compelling. |

I found common threads (concepts like "I" and "will", techniques like "meditation" and "visualization", for example), a little history, a lot of myth, legend, superstition, and little else. That's how I found it! So any "ultimate truth" lies elsewhere. A this point in the quest I don't know if there is or is not a "god", "gods", "universal mind", anything or nothing at all, or whatever. What I do know is that no religion has convinced me that they know the "truth". So I reject theism in its current state. Do I believe there is a "god", "gods", "universal mind"? No. Do I believe there is NO "god", "gods", "universal mind"? No. You said "So I take every theist and atheist position as theories concerning their non belief or belief of the existence of God." So I think your position is logically inconsistent. I HAVE NO "non belief or belief of the existence of God" to give you, so the question cannot be answered. If by capitol "G" God, however, you mean the Christian God: I know the bible is wrong, so the version of god called God is not the truth. Do I believe there is a "God". No. Do I believe there is NO "God". Yes. Does that mean I go to hell? |

Good afternoon.
Theism doesn't explain anything, either. But--unlike atheism--it does claim that it does... Keith. |

Ahem. Good evening. Atheism doesn't claim to explain anything at all. It is the lack of belief in theism. Theism makes all sort of explanatory claims, all of which fail in some important way, in my opinion, and in the opinion of all atheists. Most such theistic 'explanations' are not really explanations at all, but are pretend knowledge, or are supererogatory, or are nonsensical. Jack. |
