As one of them, I feel as if I'm missing out on all the fun.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I wonder what might be a good place for fellow Bay Area infidel dogs to meet. I am automotively challenged, a pretentious phrase that means that I do not have a car. There is someone who has hosted meetings in previous years, but he lives in Petaluma, which is rather awkward for me to get to. So I'm wondering what might be some more convenient -- and more centrally-located -- place. |

I'm in Oakland. However, I'm not likely to be hosting meetings anytime soon. It's just about time for morris season to start again, which means I'll be running from gig to gig. Groan. It also means it's almost time to start dealing with some of the more mush-headed neopagans again, since they're convinced that morris dancing is an ancient pagan custom. I can thank the neopagans for the bloody stupid idea that morris dancing should be done at dawn on May Day. Teams in England tend to start dancing about 1pm on May 1st...

I'm out near the beach in San Francisco. The Beach Chalet could be a reasonable venue - lots of parking, fairly roomy, both bar and restaurant.
Jackalope, remind them that "The Morris dance is common to all inhabited worlds in the multiverse. " (T. Pratchett, Reaper Man ). cheers, Michael |

We've "committed morrisment" at him at a couple of his previous US tours with all the White Rats in attendance. Pratchett said that the main difference between us and most british teams was that 1) we knew the steps and 2) we waited until after we danced before we got drunk. It's become a game to find something really odd for him to sign every year. One year it was one of the very cute female dancer's thigh. Then it was Jody's melodeon. This last year it was a banjo-ukele. This May Day, we'll be dancing the sun up at Lighthouse Point in Santa Cruz, along with Seabright Morris and Faultline Morris. |

I'm in SF, also without a car, though my boyfriend has one, and I could probably get him (and his car) to come along. A venue close to BART would work well for me also.

Close to BART or to the SF Muni Metro was also what I was thinking, though I could take one of the busier bus lines, like the Geary Blvd. one (Market St. - ocean).
This means: SF Market St. (Justin Herman Plaza - Castro St.) SF North Beach area SF Golden Gate Park Berkeley's Downtown Oakland's Jack London Square Various shopping malls (Stonestown, BayFair, El Cerrito, Orinda, etc.) As to the Beach Chalet itself, I could get to that by taking buses 5, 31, or 38 from Market St. or else the Muni Metro line "N" and then walk along the end of Golden Gate Park. And I wonder where that Petaluma guy is; I'd like his opinion. |

NoCal!!!
I currently am in Palo Alto. Wouldn't mind bumping into some II'ers if the time was right. This should be interesting. |

Here's the website for the Beach Chalet . I can't recall if they have an elevator for wheelchair access to the second floor where the restaurant/bar is located, but if there is some interest I can give them a call.
You could take either the N Judah or the Fulton bus out to the beach. I think the Geary or Haight bus may also end up out at the Safeway at the beach (Fulton side). I'm not familiar with many places in SF that have copious parking available. cheers, Michael |
