Default Anyone else embarassed....

To post in the Higher Fora?

I consider myself fairly intelligent when compared to most of the other people I've ever met. But at the same time, at this forum, I tend to stick with the "lower" fora (excluding the Politics forum for the same reason as the others) because of the absolute intelligence of their denizens. I feel as if I barely ever have something to contribute.

Any of the like minded down here?

No, I wouldn't say embarrassed, but I don't post a lot there, and I don't get into any super-deep discussions there either.

Hey

Yeah, some of the scholarly dudes and gals who post in the brainy fora can be darn intimidating at first. But I decided to go ahead and post there anyway, mostly for the three following reasons:

1) They made the mistake of allowing me to register as a member. It's only fair they should be the one to deal with the consequences of their mistake.

2) I think many of these scholarly types are really over-compensating for perceived lacks in other aspects of their lives. Showing off with their amazing intellect is good for their self-esteem. When I post in the higher fora, I offer them a chance to demonstrate that superiority of theirs, which probably feels like a balm on the often bruised ego of the typical book nerd. They need that point of comparison.

3) The vast majority of posters here are friendly and welcoming persons. I don't think they care if you're educated or not. As long as you show some intellectual curiosity, I'm pretty sure some of them will find something interesting in what you write.

Anyway, that's why I think I post in the higher fora and think you should too

Holy shit.

I should "proof-read" what I write more often. I suck at sarcasm and caustic humor :P

I need to add more and to my posts!

I just thought of two more reasons why you should post in the "higher" fora. If the atheists make fun of your arguments, you'll get the chance to use a line like "Gee, you're so quick to judge, I feel like I'm surrounded by christians" and watch their reaction.

Second reason not to worry about being embarassed. I'll be around to provide you with a point of comparison and make you look good.

Oh.
You only live once too!

Soy

P.S. Is there a limit of ten smileys by post?

Naaaaw, I do it just because I like to be a vicious bastard and it's less strenuous than mugging people on the street.

I'm too dumb to know I'm making a fool of myself.

Uhmmm.... Which threads are you reading? You don't want to post "because of the absolute intelligence of their denizens"?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You must be joking. Surely you have noticed that some say remarkably foolish things? Take a look at:

http://www.iidb.org/vbb/showthread.p...threadid=54473

Now, tell me, have you ever in your life read anything more idiotic and absurd than what one of the participants says there?

[I will refrain from naming names because of the policies of this site.]

Come on, you have shown that you can construct a sentence, and that puts you ahead of some. Take another look at the "higher" threads; for my part, I have read less foolishness in these "lower" ones. I freely admit, however, that I have not read even most of the threads in either category, much less have I read them all, so your experience may be different.

Well, honestly, I think my name cancels out any expectation from the other members for me to have an intellectual discussion with them. Because of this I post whenever I want, either to live up to their lack of expectation, or, sometimes, I may decide to stun and actually prove I have a brain larger than the size of a pea. Also, I could care less if I get flamed. I was flamed much more as a theist in other boards than I am as an atheist in here. It's fun to fight sometimes too...so you may flame away at me. I try not to throw the first punch.

Don't be so hard on yourself, Pyrrho.

I'll admit that I don't go into Formal Debates & Discussions, but I post in the others without shame. However, as I wore myself out of serious debating in alt.atheism, months ago, it's usually just for a sarcastic comment, or bad joke. I'm sure they rue letting me post, by now
On a more serious note, if you want to post there, but don't want to look 'stoopid',
1) don't worry about it
2) there're christians who are virtually guaranteed to make you look smart
3) do a little research before posting. A quick google search can provide you with resources to write a much better post than most of us can by ourselves
