"Gladiator"

In addition to being anamorphic widescreen, it also had a full-screen version included (not that I'd watch it, but it wasn't a separate product), some very cool easter eggs and tons of extras.

Unfortunately, I thought all subsequent DVDs would be as complete as this one. They weren't.

Gosh, I can hardly remember. I think it was Metropolis (1926).

"Traffic", I think. It was either the first rented or first purchased.

DVD's quality is fantastic. With a few average quality playback components the presentation is often better than public theater film projection.

the pricing on new releases is a little exhorbanant, though. I refuse to pay anymore than $15.00 for a disc.

I refused to buy a DVD player for a long-assed time, due in part to crap like region coding and Macrovision, and due in part to my VHS collection--I knew I'd start replicating.

Anyway, not too long ago, a friend got pissed and bought me a DVD player. I have very few DVDs, though. So far, I think it's:

Night of the Hunter
Mystery Train
The Royal Tenenbaums
and maybe three or four others I forgot, plus my son has a whole buttload of Beastie Boys videos and stuff.

And I'm a-coveting this "Masterworks of the German Horror Cinema" boxed set, with The Golem, Nosferatu, and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Also, I want Haxan: Witchcraft through the Ages. And a whole buttload of Sinister Cinema crap.

So please pretend that I have a massive collection of cool DVDs, OK?
