Just as in the oceans, our bodies are battlegrounds. Each day
we are thrice invaded by massive new armies of bacteria
present our food. Water and air, too, bring more combatants
into the fray. Our resident bacteria continually fend off the
invaders or accommodate them. Some are pathogenic and
must be killed; others are useful in many ways, as in digestion.
Something I'm now painfully aware of, after
3 sleepness nights and last night's diagnosis
that I've got strep throat.....

I guess 10% human is better than only 1%, but that's still a rather shocking little factoid.

Thanks Oolon for the references.

Ah, a bad case of that definitely isn't fun. The weird thing is that most people have had it and don't realize it.

However, as I'd pointed out, the bacteria, despite being similar in number or even more numerous, are much smaller, thus occupying much less volume. Thus, by volume, most of the living tissue in our bodies is "properly" human.

Not to worry, I'm already feeling over it! No
pain at all, and now I'm feeling like I wasted
a trip to the doctor and the pharmacy. Then again,
since my son has been diagnosed as a carrier
(and after he threw up twice yesterday, once all
over my dashboard ), probably best that I
finish the anti-biotics.

Ah, the joys of parenting....

Oh wait, I didn't have strep throat - that was just what they diagnosed me with the first time. Never mind.
