Biff,
I felt your example of "Atheist Love" was a misrepresentation of my position. I've been as clear as I can possibly be (which may well not be sufficient), and your example did not fit/mirror my professed view of the world. I feel that I have explained in earlier posts why your example does not fit, and did not simply dismiss it or brush it off. I'm sorry that explaining my view of the world has had a negative effect on you and other atheists. --tibac |

Well then I mustn't be understanding widernesse, because when I re-read your earlier posts I still find them offensive for the same reasons I've stated.
Are you contending that no, or few, Christians are hostile towards Atheists? Are you saying that your attitudes are the norm or the exception among Christians? |

I will not make excuses for my beliefs.
I think Church authorities are swindlers, and Church members are idiots, the devout ones most especially. When I say I am an atheist, I'm outright attacking their beliefs. I do not believe that they swindle because of ignorance, but they swindle intentionally. Am I saying that Church leaders don't believe in the Gods they are preaching? You bet your life on that.... So they are Atheists? Yup, Atheist who prey on others. The Pope is an Atheist! |

I have not been taught to be hostile to atheists or non-believers. I don't know if my attitude is normative, but for people similar to me (young, college-educated Christians from the South) I don't think that my attitude is original or novel. --tibac |

Forgive me if this has been covered already, but I didn't feel like reading all nine pages.
I think that many Christians feel atheism is a direct attack on their religion because many atheists [that I have met, I would not include most of you in this generalization] do not chose to express their disbelief of all gods, but only of the Judeo-Christian God. |

Of the three groups of believers that have rung my doorbell this weekend to tell me, in my own home, that I am wrong about what I believe-BEFORE THEY EVEN ASKED WHAT I BELIEVED--not one of them was selling Jupiter or Kane or Lugh. It was all the Christian God, without even any lip service to the Judeo one. So forgive me saut, but I think you are full of it. |
