I don't think you're missing anything. Folks can date living things, but don't, because, according to one's worldview:
a) they know it's in equlibrium with its carbon sources, or
b) they know that if they get a Wrong Date, the whole Atheistic Commie Evilutionist Conspiracy (TM) might collapse.
