I recommend reading MFK Fisher. Wrote about food and drink and life. She's an articulate advocate for both enjoying and behaving oneself.

Well, ( don't drink, smoke, or even take caffeine. I don't drink simply because I do not enjoy the taste or the experience. While I am sure that I could acquire the taste, why would I bother? I don't smoke because while it looks cool, I dislike the smell, taste, and sensation. I don't take caffeine because it disrupts my sleep and dehydrates me, and it isn't worth the stimulant effect.

Hoo boy...this one hits close to home...
I'm 24. I started smoking pot and hash on weekends when I was 14. Did that till I had a really, really bad experience when I was 16. The day after my "bad experience", I told my parents (who knew already) what I had been doing, and that I would never do it again. I haven't, and never will. I started drinking when I was around 14 too. Small town, nothing to do, so get wasted. I drank like a madman until 4 years ago. I just somehow all of a sudden lost the desire to get drunk. So now I drink any sort of alcohol about 10 times a year, and have only gotten drunk twice in the past 4 years. I started smoking when I was 21. That was the most brilliant thing I've ever done. I was in shape, biking 25 kilometers a day, looking good, feeling great, tons of energy. Now, I smoke about 15 cigarettes a day, bike 0kms, and have gained about 50 pounds, but have by now lost 20 of what I gained. I just got back from 2 weeks in Europe, and am determined to quit, and whip myself back into shape, and to get back on the bike. So, my method for quitting? I'm going to smoke like normal tomorrow, and count exactly how many death-sticks I smoke. Each day, progressively, I will limit myself to one cigarette less than the previous day. In theory, I will have quit in 2 weeks. We shall see. Don't start doing something stupid. Don't smoke. Drink and smoke pot as much as you want, as long as you don't drive. Pot at least won't harm you. We all know what happens with too much alcohol... Damn...I just realised something...In two weeks, I'm gonna be straight-edge...No tobacco, no alcohol, no drugs...wow. ![]() |

Fuck all the "experts" who say marijuana causes brain damage. This is bullshit! Check the Science and Skepticism Forum, and there is a thread with all these "experts" talking like they know pot. Really the true experts are the users. I used to use a lot, got a 3.5 gpa with 13 credits one semester and smoked about a 1/2 gram per day. The only reason I don't use regularly these days is due to cost (paying 350.00 per month for pot is too much for me).
<bad stuff> When I was under age I used acid, crystal meth, occasional herion, other types of speed, cocaine, marijuana, and alcohol. </bad stuff> <logic> My advise, stay the fuck away from hard drugs, and if so inclined refrain from alcohol abuse. Although there is nothing wrong with smokin' da killa wizzy dude. ![]() </logic> |

I smoke because I was exposed to a smoking camel as a child.

<the commitments>
"There's only one "e" in heroin!" </the commitments> Sorry, couldn't resist. I actually agree with the coke assessment, although heroin is much worse. Coke dupes one into thinking that it's Not A Big Deal, and then it dumps one on one's ass. Also it's ruinously expensive, and when you're on the tail end of a binge it seems like a good idea to drop a week's paycheck on more yay. Bad, bad, bad. |
