"UK" and "state religion" are not words that go together well. The UK has a state religion only because it is TRADITIONAL. Nobody under 60 gives a bugger about it, it's just this ineffectual blundering hangover from the Dark Ages.

HtH, I think you are right.

I happened upon 'Songs of Praise' as well on Sunday evening. The congregation mostly has grey hair, or were small children. Most of the grey haired people were women, and most of the children were girls. By "most" I mean somewhere between 80% and 90%. At least that's what it seemed like to me.

But that's no reason to become complaisant. There are still a few pockets inhabited by the ultra-religious.
