I've read messages and protest alerts about abstinence-only sex ed, and I oppose the idea of it, but I have no idea what's actually being taught in that curriculum. What's the content?
I mean, I assume a bunch of stuff about it, but I don't actually know what it is that they teach and I'd like to find out. Do they mention birth control? STDs? Do they talk about actual sex at all, or do they just give an anatomy lesson and then say "Don't ever touch this! Um, until you're married" ? I don't know! Can anyone point me to any websites that discuss it or any online curriculum units? |

Actually I just saw a skit on SNL on Comedy Central with those stupid cheerleaders. They said "Sex can wait, masterbate!"
Its probably the same thing, except the masterbation thing as well, seeing that is a sin too. :banghead: |

Here is a link to Human Rights Watch's Report on Abstinence-Only Education in the US. link
They feel that federally-funded abstinence-only education programs can potentially harm youth because of the lack of information given about HIV/AIDS. Many federally-funded programs are not required and do not teach HIV/AIDS prevention. "Don't Do It." is supposed to suffice. --tibac |

Great subject line hehehhe.
Masturbation is the topic I guess. Strictly speaking I have no problem with "teaching" it (can you teach how NOT to do something?? WTF?), but they should explain sex in general and the perils inherent, and that it is NORMAL AND NATURAL. Damn, you'd think sex was a BAD thing listening to these people. Leave the Abstinence education to preists that have to be around children dammit. They can't seem to figure that out on their own! ![]() |

They teach that life begins at conception, so abortion is murder and also is linked to breast cancer, that birth control is unreliable, that condoms do not prevent the transmisison of the HIV virus, and other mythology propounded by the religious right. I think they also promote "secondary virginity" for those who have fallen but promise to reform.
They probably don't tell the kids that Abstinence Only leads to increases in abortion There is a description of one program in this thread that you might find amusing in a twisted sort of way: Abstinence Only Rears Its Ugly Head Again |

Jesus Christ, are you sure that's the curriculum? You might've gotten it confused with the list of positive effects of abstinence-only sex ed.
