Default life in prison for spitting

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...ing_sentence_3

"A convicted rapist has been sentenced to life in prison for spitting on a police officer. "

So after raping and burglaring he was still running free to beat up a woman but he definitely crossed the line when he spit at a police officer

This is just a warning for any Oklahoman activists on this board not to resort to placing bodily fluids on law enforcement personnel, especially if you have previous convictions (maybe for wearing "peace on earth" attire or even drinking a beer outside
)

No seriously, locking rapists away is fine with me, it's just a bit odd he gets one year for domestic assault with pretty serious injury and lifelong for spitting.
Coming up: prohibition of exhaling in the vicinity of a police officer since that could also transmit deadly diseases.

So I guess me pissing on my fundy Sen. James Inhofe (R- Ok) would probably get me what - life in the electric chair? Damn.

BTW, we also have a guy doing LIFE for growing pot in his basement. The cops busted into his house with a warrant for the house next door, but that didn't save him. He's already been in about 15 to 20 years.

STOCK TIP: Invest in Corrections Corporation of America. It's a real growth industry.

More like life in a re-education camp funded by YECs and directed by Kent Hovind.

As we lurch on toward a police state these kind of incidents will increase. Remember, we are all equal, but some (read those who work for the government) are more equal than others.

A good read about this subject is "The State vs. The People" by Caire Wolfe and Aaron Zelman.

Not that I went around spiting on police officers, or anyone else for that matter, but Damn; this makes me even more certain that leaving Oklahoma was the right thing to do.

Yeesh! I can see getting your ass kicked for spitting in someone's face (I have issues with uninvited bodily fluids), but life in prison?!? Seems just a tad excessive to me.

The thing that shocks me the most about this that nobody else seems to have pointed out is that he didn't get life for rape but he did for spitting.

Apparently, we are to presume from this that spitting is a greater crime than rape.

IF you read the article, the jury was the group tha trecommended this action. The prosecution wanted 25 years (only).

Also, he spat at the officer, then bit him. The jury was allowed to consider the fact that he's a rapist in their recomendation. Given that they knew he was a rapist, any woman on that jury would likely jump at the chance to put his ass away for life.

That makes things even worse. Stupid judges or overzealous prosecutors can be gotten rid of through the democratic process. But what do you do when the common people -- the same ones who vote -- are so paranoid about crime that they are the ones handing down these ridiculous sentences? You can't vote them out; they're the ones voting stupid people in.
