I learned recently that Enron was pushing hard to have the Kyoto Treaty accepted by the US so that they could price gouge. Bush, apparently, heroically defied Enron, recognizing that Enrons motivations were corrupt and that the corporation would benefit mightily from the Kyoto treaty at the expense of the American people. If Bush was in cahoots with Enron why would he defy them so?

Bush was not so much in cahoots with Enron as he was their creature. They were the major financial backer of the Bush family, and they did the most to put George Bush into office. That is how "Kennie-Boy" Lay got to be in charge of formulating US energy policy. It might help if you gave us the source of your information. This is the first time I heard that Enron wanted us to sign the Kyoto treaty, so it would be interesting to check your facts.

http://www.cei.org/gencon/019,03143.cfm http://www.nationalcenter.org/NPA384.html The friend who first said that Bush had "heroically" defied Enron said he heard about it on Fox News. Well, I thought, no wonder! Fox is owned by one of the Bush gang, I believe. But then I went to the internet and have read over and over again that the Kyoto Treaty is more of a free-market dream than an effective environmental policy. I don't know...I am undecided. I don't like Bush (I am an atheist, which puts me at odds with his basic ideas), but maybe he really did make the right decision in this regard? And maybe he wasn't in the know concerning the foul play of Enron after all... ![]() |

Thanks, DH. I'll give those a closer read when a get a chance. A word of warning, though. None of the sources you cite are conventional news sources. Two seem to be put out by organizations that may or may not be lobbying fronts for energy corporations, who have an interest in whitewashing Bush's ties to the energy industry. If Bush has nothing to hide, then why does he continue to stonewall Congress on giving out details on who Cheney consulted with before drawing up energy policy? It's no secret that Enron had the inside track, but the White House has kept mum about it.
