Basically, the only foods that I won't eat are anything that's too hot/spicy. Mild foods only, please.

Personally, I have not happened upon a food that I would not TRY. Some of the dishes were BAD. But I tried them. I find that I have a strong taste for oriental food, to the point where I was nearly ostracised in college because of my love for the food. My wife abhors the things I make(mostly japanese and chinese dishes) and for the life of me I cannot understand her distaste for sashimi. I mean, fresh fish is EXPENSIVE when you live 400 miles from a coastal way. To me, there is a subtle difference. Japanese food tastes CLEAN. Chinese food just tastes GREAT. She won't eat either. She'll eat at the americanized chinese restaraunt, but won't step into a real chinese restaraunt. I just don't get it. And to the poster that was curious. Yes, "chitlins" is chitterlings. It's an abomination of american english that it is spelled one way, and comes out sounding another. But take heart, we have butchered every other word we bring into our culture as well. And the spellings too in most cases.

I might have missed some posts here, but delicacies here include goat's brain in soup. I happen to think dog meat cooked in stew is delicious. Plus, I suck out the eyeballs in fish head curry.

Oh, well then what is that disgusiting fermented-in-the-can stuff called...?

(This lutefisk stuff sounds almost half-way edible...I must have mistaken if for the disgusting fremented/rotten stuff...)

I am really surprised that no one has mentioned head cheese! What a disgusting concept. Another deli item would be liverwurst, Yuch.

I have a hard time dealing with the cultures that eat what I consider pets. Dogs, horses and cats especially.

I did read a book a number of years ago that asserted that humans eat what they eat not because it is the tasitest or the healthiest but it was the easiest to catch. That explains beef.

Well, others consider some animals sacred, but I don't think they have hard times dealing with the cultures who eat them...

I guess "dealing with" was not the appropriate wording. While I have no problem with people eating anything non-human I still could not partake in it myself.

So I guess that you don't have a problem with people eating anything that is human? Because, since even vegetables are "non-human", I have to assume by your statement that you only eat humans...

(Yes I'm being a smart-ass, but hey, whatcha gonna do about it?)

I wouldn't eat anything slimy or mushy, and I don't understand the people who would.

I will eat almost all vegetables, except for parsnips, which are just weird. They're like potatoes, only far too sweet and a really odd texture (stringy on the outside, mushy on the inside). I don't, however, like a lot of fruits - especially things like tomatoes, which are slimy (tomato fans may now tell me how I don't know real tomatoes, which is probably true)

I think it's safe to say that I would never eat offal unless I was starving. Even burgers and sausages put me off.

Another odd thing is red wine, and mulled wine. It may just be the cheap shit my mother drinks, but I tried a sip of some once, and it tasted of battery acid. Why would I want to drink that? I mean, I don't drink alcohol anyway, but I can't be doing with any of that "acquired taste" nonsense - I like to eat and drink things which taste good at once.

(I like reading wine columns though, because of the ridiculous descriptions of the wines. "It quits the mouth like Gielgud leaving the stage" was a recent one. What the hell does that mean? Is that good?)

I'm just curious however. All this time people have mentioned chitlins and chitterlings or whatever they're called.

Exactly what are they?!
