I wish I could remember which person said this--Keith Obermann?:

"Will the debate between Arnold Schwartzeneggar and Arianna Huffington be subtitled?"

And did you see the picture of Arianna hugging Arnold and Maria on the steps of the building where they were both going for filing? Arianna has been a media darling for quite a while, which means that she has at least pandered to the right wing whackos that own the bulk of media outlets in this nation today.

I didn't mean liberal as a compliment anyway. As for the photo-op, I heard she knocked over a rack of microphones to force her way into the picture, so as to steal some of Ahnold's thunder. Not exactly pandering in that case. I've heard a couple of her longer speeches, going back to Seattle/WTO times, and she's not half-bad, but not radical ('going to the root'). Who knows, maybe she will break out.

How is she at being governor?
Nothing special. Michigan is a pretty conservative state, so she can't accomplish much, that I've noticed. Plus the fiscal crunch. But I haven't really followed her record.

Arianna seems liberal to me.

So how about using the same shock-value tactics the administration uses in the drug war to confront the public with the ultimate and much more linearly linked consequences of their energy wastefulness? Imagine a soccer mom in a Ford Excursion (11 mpg city, 15 mpg highway) saying, "I'm building a nuclear bomb for Saddam Hussein." Or a mob of solo drivers toodling down the freeway at 75 mph shouting in unison, "We're buying weapons that will kill American soldiers, marines, and sailors! Yahoo!"
On soft donations.

[The donor booth, mandated anonymity in campaign donations,] would work by having campaign contributions funneled through blind trusts administered by known, reputable financial firms. Anyone who wanted to give money to a candidate would mail it to the trust, which would then pass it on to the candidate-without revealing the donors name.

Like any reform, this would create its own set of problems. But at this stage, even cynics are ready to exchange a new set of problems for the old ones. With the donor booth, PAC money would dry up-because knowing whos giving is exactly why PACs exist. Donor anonymity would prove-as if more proof were needed-just how many contributions have nothing to do with the donors policy desires. And while the protectors of the status quo keep trying to use constitutional arguments to protect soft money, this proposal is as constitutionally unassailable as the secret ballot. Donor anonymity calls everyones bluff [because] donors can never prove [their donations].

Excuse me, but isnt denigrating people because of their accents a pretty cheap shot? How is that a topic of ridicule for supposedly decent, rational people?

BTW, hows your German?

Arianna is in her early 50's, a little younger than Hilary Clinton. In her 20's, she was really hot. (She wrote an anti-feminist book in the early days of the woman's movement that featured her on the cover.) Her accent didn't prevent her from winning debates at Oxford.

Arianna was a conservative when her hubby ran for governor. She went from there to being Newt Gingrich's pal in Washington. She only became a quasi-liberal when she figured out that compassionate conservatives were 1) not compassionate and 2) totally corrupt. Also after she moved to Brentwood and met a lot of rich liberals.

While I don't completely trust her (previous thread on Arianna) - I like the way she is injecting anti-Bush rhetoric into the campaign.

I think a debate between Arnold and her would be fun. Not just because of the accents, but she would mop the floor with him, then wring him out, rinse and repeat.
