Default Lamb tasties

I was at the supermarket today, shopping for meat. I noticed small trays of (fairly identifiable) objects labelled "lamb brains", "lamb kidneys" and then, "lamb tasties".

Did they mean... I looked at the pieces of meat beneath the cling film. They were oval, pink and veined. I looked at the label again, decided that it was the most inspired misspelling I've ever seen, and went to the beef section.

I just have one question. Are they really tasty?

My guess: it's a misspelling of "testes" (a.k.a. testicles). Their shape certainly fits.

As to their taste, you may want to ask eaters of Rocky Mountain Oysters, a.k.a. Prairie Oysters. By which I don't mean freshwater bivalves. Some people consider them a delicacy. I've even discovered some pages that have Rocky Mountain Oyster recipes.

Ah! Calf Fries! Not bad battered and deep fried. I've tried turkey fries too; they're about the same, only a lot smaller.

Lamb tasties? That's rich.

Default A bit OT

While we're on strange spelling mistakes in food shops, I once saw a sign advertising GATO'S 2-for-1

It took me a while to work out they must have meant gateaux.

I find "lamb fries", "rocky mountain oysters", etc. to be quite tasty deep fried.

However, I still get pains "down there" when I eat them--sympathy pains, no doubt.

Or maybe they mean gato, Spanish for cat.
