Red face Takeshi Miike films anyone?

Well I was at the local gaming geek festival over here in Oslo (Arcon 19 if anyone is interested). A friend of mine who like "special" films were responsible for the film program. At 0400 (CET) the night to Sunday I got to see "Ichi the killer". THAT MAN IS SERIOUSLY DISTURBED!! ... and (sort of) fun. Extremesplatter and gross sexual violence (especially towards women) made me turn my head a couple of times but I still sat there with a sort of pale smile. I'd seen his "Fudoh: the Next Generation" before and that was sort of more over the top with a little less violence. So anyone of you who have seen this movie and (GASP) liked them?

Audition. Hands down the most skin-crawling movie I've ever sat through. At one point, I didn't actually think I would get to the end - the only time I've ever wanted to turn a film off. Only those with strong stomachs need apply.

mecca,
I don't know the correct English spelling of the Japanese word, but:

"Kidi, kidi, kidi, kidi, kidi!"* <<shudder>>

I've read several reviews and spoilers, and have no intention of seeing this movie (I know my limits). But I want to know what the hell is in the "BAG" that everyone keeps shuddering about!

Audition literally made my skin crawl. Very well done. But, hell, Ichi the Killer looks far worse. Crap those images were intense in that trailer. I may have to buy this one

Oh sweet jebus, Audition. My buddies and I were shellshocked after seeing that film and had to go back to my house for hot cocoa.

And curse you, visualization - it was really really easy to lie there in the middle of the night convinced that the ... contents of the bag were on my bedroom floor, just next to the bed. I have an active imagination. I am also an immense wuss.

I absolutely love this guys movies. I've been collecting them on DVD for a while and every one of them has at least a couple of scenes which are unlike anything I've seen before;

Audition : Probably the most well known of his films but imho not his best. Still, I don't get creeped out all that easily but this movie certainly did it for me.

Dead or Alive : An earlier Yakuza drama which, at least in parts, is quite sensational. The opening montage filmed is a hypnotically kinetic collection of Yakuza hits, strippers, DJ's, demented clowns, cops beating up prostitutes and a guy with a serious (like a 25 foot long line of coke!) drug problem. The ending defies description and there are a few scenes in the middle which are pretty different too.

Dead or Alive 2 : The Birds : Not really a sequel, more a companion piece with the same actors playing different roles. Not as good as the original, but still entertaining

Dead or Alive : Final : I actually preferred this to the second one. The ending is again pretty bizarre and there is the usual collection of things I hadn't seen done before

City of Lost Souls : Probably the worst of his movies that I own. It is another Yakuza saga although the story involves a Brazilian gangster and much of the dialogue is Portuguese.

Fudoh - The New Generation : Another Yakuza movie which many would consider disturbing because of its portrayal of child assassins. Still, its highly inventive in parts and as is usual with a Miike movie he does things very few directors have the guts to.

Ichi The Killer : imho, his second best movie. A challenging story which explores sadism and masochism. Incredibly graphic in places and some extremely sadistic violence make it not suitable for everyone. Still, its a movie a lot of people ought to see because of its sheer inventiveness although many will dislike it

Visitor Q : imho, his best movie. A dark (and I mean really, really dark) satire on reality TV. Parts are as "gross" as Ichi The Killer but it is done with such humour I found myself laughing at things I've probably not laughed at before. Very highly recommended if, and only if, you have the stomach for it.
