Sex is a biggie in a relationship, but it really is like a perk. Most people are not having sex with eachother, all day, everyday, friendship, love, and mutual respect is the end all be all, as far as I'm concerned.

I'd say that sex is a little more than a perk, since it is integral to a relationship -- a "relationship" completely devoid of sex would be a friendship instead -- but sex certainly isn't its sole purpose. There are many important relationship values, such as emotional support, caring, and the like.

Well, I do consider it to be very important, but what if there is an illness that comes along that makes it impossible to have sex anymore? If a relationship is built solely on sex, then it won't survive. If love is the root of it, it can. I hold my own value to it, but in reality, it really isn't the major focal point of life.

This appears to be a serious, worthy topic. Therefore, I'm moving it to Misc Disc

If sex is the be all and end all of your relationship, I don't envy you during the other 23 1/2 hours of your day.

I agree.

If sex is really the most important aspect of a relationship, does that mean people seek relationships simply for sex? You don't need to love someone to have sex with them.

I think it is just one of many aspects of a relationship, but it is an important, and often neglected one.
