Angry And the years are just TICKing away...

Well, I'm not exactly oldI'm 17but this is a mild rant on aging.

It's 9:30p. I feel like being productive, so I grab all 11 of my long-overdue-for-ironing dress shirts. I'm really bad at ironing. Come 10:45, I've finished three shirts. They're still kind of crinkly, but good enough that I would feel comfortable wearing them to a formal occasion.

So anyway, by then I'd successfully burned myself in four different areas (right shin , both big toes, blade of left hand, thumb of left hand) and I'm currently feeling real freakin' st00pid, because my mom or dad would have gone through the entire stack in, like, half an hour. I suspect either of my sisters (they're both out of undergrad now) would have been able to finish within an hour or so.

It's stuff like this (ironing) that makes me think "Dammit, I'm not ready to grow up!". :boohoo:

So, for the rest of you out there, any similar moments, where you're just like "BAH!" to the whole 'getting out into the adult world' thing?

Talking Get married

Easy solution: get married. Preferably to a conservative Southern country girl (not difficult since you are in NC already). Best way to acomplish this is to get her pregnant. Her father will take care of the rest (if he doesn't shoot you first).

Good luck

AARRGGHH!

I'll give you the benefit of doubt and hope that you were joking, but if not, you guys really need to change your attitudes! Yes, cooking, cleaning, laundry, and ironing are all boring dirty chores that have to be done. But you better learn to do them and be able to look after yourself, because if you ever do manage to find someone to marry with that attitude, she will most likely be too busy with work to have the time or inclination to take care of you like Mommy did.

Take a look at some stats on housework over the ages. For all of our fight for equality, women still do the majority of housework, dispite the fact that we have joined the workforce. Housework is not automatically the woman's job, and if you have free time, and she's busy, then you need to get off your duff and start cleaning up your mess.

Sorry for the rant, but you really hit one of my sore spots.

I'll do a search and come up with the figures in a little bit.

Women are obviously superior to men.

Yeah, I really do not know how my post could be interpreted any other way. What with Southern country girls and shotgun weddings.

I thought of that. Hence the suggestion with a conservative Southern country girl. They are likely stay at home.

I agree. It is about division of labor based on individual situation of the couple.

I have noticed.

You really want to turn this into a serious thread? Sheesh.

Ironing, what's that?

Neither I nor my roommate iron anything. Well okay, once in a blue moon perhaps. We just take everything out of the dryer while it's still hot and hang it up.

I stopped ironing clothes the day I left the military. No more uniforms to starch & press.

Sorry UMoC, but this is a serious topic. On average women are doing 23.5 hours of unpaid work in the house a week. Men have made great strides forward, and are averaging 7 hours a week. Most of the links I found made a big deal over the fact that men are gaining and women are losing hours, but the fact remains that women are doing three times as much unpaid work in the home, in addition to their work outside the house.

I heard a friend's mother complaining a couple of weeks ago about how the house was a mess, and he wasn't brought up like this, why couldn't his wife keep it clean. I thought to myself, you bitch, she works full time, has two kids, and he doesn't help at all around the house. Of course it gets a little messy at times. And of course your house never looked like this, you never had to work outside the house, and could devote your whole day to cleaning.

anyway here's some links if you're interested, or think I'm exagerating.

well, I thought I had them, but they aren't working after two tries, and since it's a quarter to three in the morning, I give up.

Unhappy Sheesh

Talk about a thread hijack.

Just a comment on the "marry a southern girl" thing: I would probably get shot by my girlfriend's dad, just for being Asian. (He's a tad bit racist)

HeatherD: I never iron stuff when I'm at school (dorms), but my shirts all looked kinda rumpled, so I figured I would iron them then. I've still got a bunch to do today.

Do what I do and pay someone to come and do it all for you.
