S'ok. The addy I gave them is to a box I never open, for just that reason. Let 'em spam, as long as the poll itself is valid.

Shit, and I just signed. Oh well, I think all the spammers already have my address anyway. Luckily I have a pretty good spam filter.

I don't think the poll (or any of petitiononline's stuff) is valid. Rephrase my post and warning:
AFAIK petitiononline.com is a way for spammers to harvest e-mail addresses, and that is all it does.

Even if the petition does get sent to "Michael Brawley, Holt, Rinehart and Winston", how seriously would you take a petition that could quite easily have been generated by a computer program that spits out thousands of random names and e-mail addresses?

Yes, I figured as much myself. Does anyone, anywhere, care about online polls?

This is the passage that I have problems with. Just put "evolution" in Google and look at all the crap that comes up. It is unethical for a textbook writer to just tell highschool biology students to look up "alternative theories" on the internet, with out giving them guidence on what sites have valuable educational material.
Exactly. They're happy to have students roll the Google dice, because the odds of finding some creationist shite on the Internet are so high.

What sort of academic attitude is supposed to be represented by such advice, anyhow? Of course the Internet is unmoderated, not peer-reviewed, hell, not reviewed at all. The qualifications for putting your theory of life on the net are effectively zero. Granting that they can't admit their wish to throw students into the arms of Hovind, AiG, and everyone else whose ravings are unpublishable by the weakest scientific standards, what's the authors' story for why they would give such absurd advice?

The textbook might as well instruct students to hang out in front of the Kwik Stop for quality information about the origins of life. It's pathetic.
