Here Rick, let me break down Corwin's argument into little words, so maybe you can comprehend it.

Let's assume a few things.

1) Bill is not an acupunture practitioner or enthusiast.
2) Bill claims that acupuncture is supposed to cure cancer.
3) Actual acupuncture practitioners and enthusiasts do NOT make the claim that cupuncture cures cancer.
4) Acupuncture does NOT cure cancer.

Your original assertion ("The origin of the claims is not the issue; the lack of objective evidence supporting them is,") seemed to imply that we can judge acupunture's efficacy based on Bill's claim, since it doesn't matter whether the claim comes from a practitioner or not. Since, indeed, acupuncture does not cure cancer, then Bill's argument is a proper debunking of acupuncture.

The problem with that is Bill's argument is a straw man. We cannot judge a practiced based on the straw men. Otherwise, it would be AS IF we based evolution theory on the straw men creationists dream up (cat from dog, for example).

Are we on the same page now?
