Here are the descriptions I use.

Evolution: Change in properties or frequencies of properties in populations of organisms over time.

Microevolution: Evolution apparent in a species.

Macroevolution: Evolution apparent between species or taxa.

Characteristics, attributes, etc. They can be morphological, phenotypic, genotypic, etc. I prefer using that defination because it doesn't assume anything about the heritary material. It also allows evolution to be observed without testing genetics, kind of like they did it a hundred years ago.
