Some people decide to type in numbers to demonstrate that they're elite when it comes to computers. (I'm not sure how exactly this is supposed to demonstrate it, but anyway...) This is called "Leetspeak". ("Leet", or "1337" is how "leetspeakers" spell elite.)

Take Mecha_Dude's post for example:

"743|23 !5 |\|0 $37 7|2@|\|514+!0|\| VV3 0wnz j00r P|208!!!!!" means

"There is no set translation. We own your prog (program)."

It's something I find quite annoying, and so I am writing a program that will translate it back to English. (Mecha doesn't seem to think I can do it.)

I'm just saying that it won't be so simple to program, because multiple characters can be used to represent a letter. For example "a" can be represented with either a "4" or an "@" so there coulld be some problems unless you become very proficient in 1337

However, I do have a 1337 translator that I don't really need, but the quality of the translation may vary depending on the "Dialect" of 1337.

Thankyou for the translation. God help us all.

That's why I'm including decision-making routines. For example, if there's a | or a 1 that's surrounded by spaces, I make it a capital I. If a number comes right after a decimal point, I leave it a number. If there's an @, it'll search for a .com, .org, or .net in the rest of the string.
etc, etc, etc.

There will probably be a few errors in most translations, but it should be to the point where it could be run through a spell-checker and the correct translation would come out. That's why I'm hoping to find a way of linking it to a spell checker's database.

Thanks for the offer, but one of the reasons Im doing this is to teach myself how to write in C using only the ANSI libraries. (So it should be portable.)
The other is to achieve a symbolic victory of coders over script-kiddies.

Ya, Im working on it.

It looks like the admins have disabled the ability to attach .zip files (probably a smart move), so instead Ill upload it to <shameless plug>SecularLife.org</shameless plug> and post a link.

*chuckles*
I like that anthem. "Leet forever, coherent never"
I think Ill use that in the test file for my program.
