Default Forbes.com: Rumsfeld ignored Pentagon Advice on Iraq Report

The article is here.

"Much of the supply of Tomahawk cruise missiles has been expended, aircraft carriers were going to run out of precision guided bombs and there were serious maintenance problems with tanks, armored vehicles and other equipment."

Is this a reliable news source?

They're sending people into harm's way, without even making sure that they have adequate supplies?

Jeebus.

Well, I just heard Gen. Franks on T.V. denying that there is any 'operational pause'. Tanks were on the move and things were happening. Could it be that the media misread the situation and reported a false reality? It's too early to tell. Give it a few days.

Push Toward Baghdad Is Reaffirmed

Quote:
White House officials would not discuss what Bush said. But a senior administration official said Bush agreed with Rumsfeld that the coalition should push aggressively toward Baghdad rather than pause for any lengthy regrouping after enduring a tortured week of bad weather, guerrilla raids and overstretched supply lines.
Feild commanders want a pause, and top officials want to rush to Baghdad. This doesn't sound like it's going to end well. Maybe God will answer Bushs prayers and strike down Saddam and all the top leaders with simultaneous heart attacks, and we can waltz in.

Yeah. I just read an article off MSNBC quoting rummy & krew as saying everything's FINE, we have PLENTY OF TROOPS, this was ALL IN THE PLAN, there is NO OPERATIONAL DELAY, there are NO SUPPLY PROBLEMS, don't worry your PRETTY LITTLE HEADS ABOUT IT, poppa rummy is ON TOP OF IT.

I kept interrupting my wife in her reading to say 'jesus christ, they're just completely lying their asses off now, listen to this!!' 'Yes dear. I'm trying to read dear, leave me alone dear.'

*grumble*

Anybody who's been paying attention in the slightest little bit knows that there IS a resupply problem, this is NOT going according to plan, we DO need more troops, and an operational delay is NECESSARY. And the bulk of the blame for all that can be laid at Rumsfeld's feet. There are simply too many corroberating info sources saying essentially the same thing to be mistaken.

Why in hell are they just flat out lying now? Up till now they've been fairly good about just spinning facts so that they can later say 'oops, guess we were mistaken' plausibly. And who, exactly, is he fooling?

What REALLY pisses me off about this is that 'there is no operational pause'. It's obvious they need one. Consolidate gains made, secure the supply line, get reinfocements in country and in theatre, make sure the troops have enough food, water, ammo, and gas, etc and so on. Now this is purely speculation, but it looks like rummy may have nixed the pause because it made him look bad... In which case, **IF** that happens to be true, the man needs to be tried for treason, IMHO...

Cool War on Iraq: the Australian view.

Saw this little cartoon in my local paper yesterday, and thought I might pass it on.

Edited. (Please see Gurdur's post for the image.)

I know the image quality isn't brilliant, but... it's very difficult to scan a newspaper, and I'm not exactly a dab hand with PhotoShop, so I had a bit of trouble with the contrast.

Still, you get the idea.

Talking

Heheh... reminds me of that famous exchange...
  • Zaphod stared at Arthur.

"Did you think of that, Earthman?" he demanded.

"Well," said Arthur, "all I did was ..."

"That's very good thinking you know. Turn on the Improbability Drive for a second without first activating the proofing screens. Hey kid you just saved our lives, you know that?"

"Oh," said Arthur, "well, it was nothing really ..."

"Was it?'' said Zaphod. "Oh well, forget it then. OK, computer, take us in to land."

    "But ...''

    "I said forget it."
