In a way Beoran, you're right. Life is not black and white.
If you had problem with Kant's 1st categorial imperative, which is universality, you could try his second one which is : To treat humanity whether in your own person or in the person of any other never simply as a means but always at the same time as end. The United Nation was built on this imperative...you could try to make it part of your life, and you will find that it is not only humane, but also has fewer or no gray areas. ------------------------------------------------ I read something is the newspaper which is very beautiful, though not exactly about Kant. It's about life in the Kashmir. Indians, because they do not eat cow, sell them to the Pakistani. On the other hand, Pakistani, because they do not eat pigs, sell them to the Indians. It just goes to show you, men are not naturally enemies. Only governments and religions. [ December 14, 2002: Message edited by: Rousseau_CHN ]</p> |

Hmmm... but by what standards do I get to choose my categorical imperative? It is just by my preference, or? As for humaneness, that has been known(bu not always practised) since Confucius' time.
