Thanks to all the responses in this thread I am shopping for an inexpensive, older-model (1 or 2 years) laptop. It will primarily be for typing up class notes so my only real requirement is that it be able to run M$ Office 2000. I really want a DVD player though. It would be nice if it came with Windows 2K but 98SE is fine. No OS is fine too, I can always (ahem) buy separately and install. I don't to spend more than $1000, and I'd really like to find something for less, and since my requirements are low I think that should be practical. Any suggestions on where I should shop, online or in real life?
(I already checked eBay. ugh.) |

I've got an Inspiron 8100, which was 1000$ when the 8200 came out about a year ago I think. Anyways, it works great, havn't had any problems, and it can certainly run MS Office fine. If you can find one it should be quite a bit cheaper now too. Good luck!
