As for me, I'm currently a substitute organist for a local Methodist church, so I'm there bright and early every Sunday morning until they can find a replacement. After that, it's back to sleepin' in!!

During the week we are usually up between 4 and 5 am (we both work early) so on the weekends we like to sleep in. However, the dogs won't let us sleep past about 8:30. We have our son trained though and he would be just fine if we slept until 10 am.

After that it's time for some breakfast, coffee, paper reading on our deck and sometime after about noon the cooking for Sunday dinner begins. Sunday is the one day I can really devote to cooking and my son loves to help. The boys (if the weather is nice) will go and play some basketball at the local park after breakfast has settled!

This sounds so much nicer! I used to even resent church when I was a Christian because of the hassle. Maybe if I lured my family with a good, Southern breakfast with grits and all, they'd rather stay home. Especially considering the fact that I haven't cooked breakfast for over two months.

Thank you! It is nicer. We have attended a UU Church on Sunday, but my husband resented missing his quiet, relaxing, Sunday breakfasts at home. He has a pretty crazy week and really needs the downtime to regroup and get ready for the next week (as well do I.)

Every other day of the week we have to rush to go here, and keep this appointment, go to this practice, etc., etc. We need some family time without all the buzz and stimulation of the week. Plus, I really enjoy cooking and my son has aspirations to be a chef someday. So he really likes to help and he is at that age where he is actually a help in the kitchen.

Now, a Southern breakfast sounds delicious! That would keep me home Sunday is also the one day to eat badly (well, foods that full leaded with fat, etc. ... my husband makes the best, homemade belgium waffles and coffee from the french press ... yummm ... I am hungry now! Biscuits, sausage, gravy ... oh yeah!

Sunday is family day. Did I mention I love to cook That's the day to make all those foods that really need to be slow cooked ... like homemade spaghetti sauce with meatballs that simmer for hours and make the entire house smell fantastic ... or homemade bread ... pot roast ... chili ... mmmmmmm....

Church ... Schmurch!

Every Sunday of my married life of many, many years, my husband makes either pancakes or waffles. We have experimented with many different recipes and mixes. Our current favorite is a recipe for waffles that uses club soda to make them especially light and delicious. I contribute to the meal by frying ham or sausage.

The other Sunday ritual is reading two Sunday papers and doing the crossword puzzle. Then we usually take a fifty minute walk in the hills above our home. I love our Sunday mornings.

Sleep late (wife and kid off to church, so it's quiet), get up, have a quite cup of coffee and a pop-tart either in the living room or sitting on the deck, watch a bit of TV (usually Motor Week), and then take a long, hot bath reading a good book until the family gets home. Sometimes if I have the energy, I'll go out and do a bit of yardwork.

This is none of my business (so feel free to ignore my question), but why do you go to church if you are an atheist?

We usually drink coffee and read the paper on Sunday mornings (so that is how I answered the poll), but we sometimes do one of the other options first.

Because my kids get upset if they cannot go to church and see their friends, so I take them. I also have a mother-in-law that calls me every Sunday morning to see if I am going.(My in-laws attend them same church.) So...I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. I can afford for my family to shun me because I am an atheist(which they pretty much do) but I cannot come clean with my in-laws. 'Twould be quite traumatic for all involved, especially moi.

I sleep in for a few hours, watch some TV and brew a batch of the Sacred Beverage: Beer.
