Default 52% would not vote for atheist...

...and other frightening statistics.

It's wonderful to know that because of my theological sanity I am the least trusted. :banghead:

Quote:
A 62 percent majority thinks Bush strikes the right balance in how much he mentions his religious faith, and nearly as many (58 percent) believe the presidents reliance on religion in policymaking is appropriate.
I no longer want my eyes.
Quote:
Fully 72 percent of Americans agree that the government should provide universal health insurance, even if it means repealing most tax cuts passed since President Bush took office. Democrats overwhelmingly favor this proposal (86 percent-11 percent) and independents largely agree (78 percent-19 percent). Even a narrow majority of Republicans (51 percent) favor providing health insurance for all even if it means canceling the tax cuts, while 44 percent disagree.
This is actually heartening--51% of Republicans are in FAVOR of it! However, we will NEVER EVER EVER get it, because only the asshole 44% are ever elected to high office.

Well that's okay... more than 52% won't be voting anyway.

could this be an indication that these forums do not accurately represent the atheist community at large?

It is interesting that the title of the article was: Poll: Growing Number of Americans Say Islam Encourages Violence Among Followers. Clearly we need to invade more muslim countries to set them straight on that point.

Who thinks that it does? Who thinks Christian Forums or RaptureReady represents the Christian community at large? Who thinks any internet forum represents anything but its own members?

More from the article:
Quote:
Religious beliefs also play a significant role in Americans understanding of foreign affairs. More than four-in-ten Americans (44 percent) believe that God gave the land that is now Israel to the Jewish people, while a substantial minority (36 percent) thinks that the modern state of Israel is a "fulfillment of the biblical prophecy about the second coming of Jesus."

No, I mean

mmm.. noo...

wait...

fuck it
:banghead:

That article is simply disturbing.

It is encouraging for America that there are more than 100% of people. If 58% say that religion "seldom if ever" affects their voting decisions, and 52% would "never" vote for a well-qualified atheist, then there must be at least 110% of the people in total.

Maybe that's where that phrase 'Go out and give 100%' came from!

Besides, right now we do have 110% having gained that 10% from our new colony, the artist formerly known as Iraq.
