That reminds me: have you ever studied the feline penis? I don't know if all felines, but at least felis domesticus has a barbed penis that causes the female to scream during intercourse.

You sure she wasn't just screaming because she liked it? ::rimshot::

I think bards are standard across felines. The abrasions are required for ovulation.

It's a high-pitched screech that sounds like a lot of pain. I don't envy those female cats. And what's stranger is that, after all that thorny business, she wants another go.

Other mammals don't require such a delightful system. Yet another argument against common design by a Grand Old Designer...

So cats are into S&M. I always had a feeling that was the case. Cats are just like that.

Noooo, bad kitties, BAD!

But back to penises and all that... I saw a documentary about some studies once.... agh, it was years ago, but if I remember correctly, it was something about the female (human) being able to decide which of the men she has sex with will impregnate her. I can't remember how, though. Might have something to do with the state of hormones etc based on how aroused she is during intercourse. Also there was a picture of what happens inside during a woman's orgasm, wich kept me off sex for the next years... yuck. (I was 15, so no loss there, but the image is still in my head dammit!) That bit of the film showed a sort of penis, much smaller, somewhere in the area where the semen piles up in the vagina, and during orgasm it "dipped" into the semen repeatedly. What got stuck on it had a better chance of getting to the egg. (You call it an egg in English too, right?)

Sex bad... Discovery Channel bad... bad kitties! :banghead: get.... the.... picture.... out...

Mistress of Tales: I saw that one too! It was the niftiest episode of "The Human Animal" ever! Even better than the one about obscene gestures!

This explains my slightly corkscrew-shaped penis. It is an Arichimedes spiral designed to move another man's semen from the canal to my new sheets.

Am destined to sleep with whores my whole life?

Am I the pinnacle of Mount Improbable's Sierra Pene range?

Wine anyone?

Notice these two statements, one from the theory proponent and one from a critic…

Quote:
"We theorize that as a consequence of competition for paternity, human males evolved uniquely configured penises that function to displace semen from the female vagina left by other males".

"The research might very well be accurate, but I'm not convinced that just because the penis does something like this it was necessarily designed to have that effect".
Notice that they define an evolved system as one that evolves to perform some function, and that is "designed to have that effect". I think the fallacy of design exists in both views. Supposing the theory to be true, penises did not evolve to function in any way, neither were they "designed". It just happened that among randomly shaped penises, those whose shape happened to displace competitor sperm produced more offspring, and those offspring tended to have that same trait… No design. No designer. Just random selection.
