I had some trouble deciding in which forum to post this; I think it might belong in Miscellaneous Religious Discussions, but it does have to do with the bible, so here goes.
I just finished reading The Mythmaker--Paul and the Invention of Christianity (1986, Hyam Maccoby). I found it very interesting, presenting as it does how xianity was created by a bitter & disaffected Saul by combining features of Hellenistic mystery religions, Judaism, & Gnosticism. Has anyone else read this book, & if so, what did you think of it? Do you know of any other books exploring the same subject that are worth reading? |
