Default svshost

Is it normal for the user svshost to be taking up 99% of the CPU on a consistent basis? It never used to, and it has me worried to a small degree. Anyone know anything about this?

Red face svshost is a possible trojan

Danger! A google search turned up that "svshost" is a trojan. I suggest you purchase an antivirus program and run it on your system asap. I will look at securityfocus to see if more turns up.

here is a way to get rid of the trojan without an antivirus program.

Hope that helps.

the correct term is "crackers", "hackers" are the friendly ones, as opposed to the crackers/script kiddies who felt the need to put that trojan on your machine.

- 'blex, your friendly neighbourhood term nazi.

Is svchost also a trojan, or just a part of Windows? I checked my Task Manager, and I have four of them loaded in my memory.

It's either a part of windows, or a trojan from microsoft

Seriously, svchost manages dynamic link libraries (.dll files), and is an essential part of windows.

I see. So the trojan svshost is so-named to fool people into thinking that it's svchost. Them crackers are getting mighty crafty. Thanks for the info.
