Zang: I didn't, and the fact that you continue to insist that I did shows that you didn't really read my posts. Nowhere in that post did I say the Earth is 6000 years old because of the decaying magnetic field nor did I defend that proposition. Statements such as those are the reason I abandoned that thread. Too many people were pigeonholing me as a creationist as well as claiming that I said or believe things that I actually don't.
Statements such as what? I never said you were a YEC or a creationist. But let me be more specific. Why did you repeatedly deny in that thread that the past intensity of the geomagnetic field could be deduced from geologic data, even after I presented data very early in thread showing that it could be? Whether you are creationist or not, you definitely displayed an ignorance of the subject matter and a willingness to misrepresent the data. Maybe this is why some of the other people on the thread were pidgeonholing you.

I don't.

I think evolution vs creation is the biggest red herring flaunted by evangelicals.

Most of the time I tell Christians that they really should be directing their questions toward believers who have no problem reconciling their faith with evolution.

Hey zzang,

Read about this piece of work here and maybe you'll see why we have to fight so hard. Here's an excerpt from an evolution denyier in colorado (my state )

Quote:
"Evolution is killing our children; it is the death knell of our culture," says Jack. "It's not just a flawed idea; it's deadly. And if you don't believe me, let's just drive over to Columbine High School. Those two shooters learned their lessons well. Now hear me carefully: I am not saying that some teacher told them to go out and shoot somebody. However, from the day they entered the public school system until the day they died, they were told, in some form or another, that they were nothing more than mistakes of nature. That they were here on Earth purely by accident. That they were, really, nothing more than cosmic jokes. And they simply followed that worldview through to its logical conclusion."
zzang, the more important question is,

Why aren't you fighting this drivel too??

Creationist = NAZI

The leaders of the Third Reich didn't have nuclear weapons, though. We must put up a fight against the Religious Reich or perish.

I don't quite get it myself. Why are creationists suddenly nazis with nuclear weapons?

Nuclear weapons? Creationists can hardly string a scentence together, let alone obtain and operate a nuclear device.

Neither can Shrubya...
He's President, though

Arrowman, you do realize that the Nazi's were, quite literally, a cult? Has it entirely missed you that their brands of apologetics and child indoctrination bear a striking resemblance to the behavior of various Fundamentalist cults, including many that are active meddlers in American politics? You laugh now, and I truly hope that your skepticism is justified, but I leave you this: the Germans, even particularly devoted Nazis, were not, for the most part, the kind of monsters you would probably imagine as having carried out the acts for which they were blamed. Cults have a way weaving large numbers of otherwise normal people into unimaginably pernicious mechinations.

Nazis and Nazi children were taught to see Jews as horrible monsters. We are characterized by certain fundies as pernicious servants of Satan.

Would it physically harm you to assume that by this I mean that we need to do something to counteract/dispell the ravings of madmen like Jerry Falwell and Fred Phelps? Perhaps you do not realize it, but there are a few more people out there than you think that actually agree with them or, if not them, some other nutjob.

Why is it that most of you here religiously defend evolution as if it was your mother? Does it hurt your ego when someone disbelieves or attacks evolution? Some of you seem too attached and emotional about your belief in evolution. It really isn't important if people don't believe it you know.

A lot of atheists are (at least slightly) humanist. They believe in people's enlightment through education. Now, were this education to be impregnated with deist ideology there wouldn't be much enlightment left, wouldn't there?
