Angry RANT: 8,000 calories!

My coworker K. is a rock-solid size 6 and, at thirty years old, looks great for her age. However, we counted up her calories over the past week and found out she eats, on average, 8,000 calories a day.

This is proof there is no God .

Just who does she think she is anyway? Tsukino Usagi?

Does she exercise constantly on non-work hours? 8000 calories... I find that very difficult to believe.

Nope - she's just thin. Somehow.

For example, yesterday she had two nacho grande things from TacoBell (something like 1,100 calories in each) plus two soft-shell tacos. Then she had a Big Mac supersize meal from McDonalds with extra "Mac" sauce. Then a can of cheese ravioli from Chef Boyardee, plus four 20 ounce Mt Dew drinks. She ended up with a bag of smoked almonds from the vending machine at 9pm last night.

What a lot of junk food.

By the time she hits 40 she'll either have ballooned massively or be heading into heart-attack territory with that diet.

Bree, I feel your pain

Now, let's have a drink & some cake & forget about it

Well yeah, some people have a naturally fast metabolism (alhough 8 Mcal a day does sound a little hard to swallow, no pun intended)

My high school biology teacher called those people "Drsenmonster" ("gland monsters") and two of my high school friends definitely fall into this category.

Medically impossible. Even with an extremely high activity factor (i.e. physically demanding job and competetive athlete) her basal energy expenditure, barring illness or some other medical condition, cannot exceed about 5,000 or 6,000 calories (and this would be unusally high unless she's a competetive body builder who's about 6'5" and 270 lbs). For every 3500 calories or so over BEE one consumes the body will store away 1lb of fat. Now variations in human metabolism and somatoform (body type) can account for significant differences in BEE, but I guarantee you she is not consuming 8,000 calories a day every day. Second, metabolism slows and lean body mass begins to decrease after age 35 so eventually bad eating catches up with everyone. In the mean time she is putting huge strain on her vital organs. I wouldn't be too jealous just yet.

Not at all necessarily.

I eat tons of fat, have tons of sugar in my coffee, and I have never managed to get above 65 Kg in my life.

Plus despite the fact I smoke, I seem to be protected more than most against heart disease and strokes owing to my extremely low blood pressure.

Just thought I'ld share ?

(Bree ----- please don't hate me. I wish I had more weight )

Tons of fat and sugar in and of itself will not cause weight gain. It's total caloric intake vs. Basal Energy expenditure that matters. That being said most of my adult life I was 1.7 metres tall and around 63 Kg. In the last few years (I'm 32), however that's changed and the addition of Paxil to my diet has also added about 30 lbs to my frame!
