I think George Carlin can clear this up....

By the way, I say "this guy", because I firmly believe, looking at these results, that if there is a God, it has to be a man. No woman could or would ever fuck things up like this.

Cute

I'm thinking that if we call god an "it" there wouldn't be any attributes, or would there?

Best,
Clarice

I'm not sure I understand your question Claire... How would calling god "it" take away his/her/it's attributes?
Another thing to consider is that if god is transcendent(outside of space and time) how could it be a male or female? If it is outside of space, it could not possibly have reproductive organs. As you may know, a term that is starting to be used in lieu of he or she, is "re" - which can go for either male, female neither or both.

Hi,

Well, when I think that there might be a god or gods I draw a blank on the attributes of them when I use "it." All attributions are human-made.

Please tell me more about the "re" thing. I've never heard of it before. Where did it come from and why "r" and "e?"

Thanks,
Clarice

Actually I have only heard "re" used in the atheist community. The infidel guy (infidelguy.com) has used it many times and Michael Newdow actually used it in a religious debate that he participated it. They both explained it before they used it.

The page in which the Infidel Guy uses it is: http://www.infidelguy.com/Deitical_Conundrums.html

he explains it in a sentence at the bottom of the page.

If you want to hear the debate where Michael Newdow explains it, click here:

Sorry i don't have more about it...

If anyone else wants to post attributes of god according to the bible, feel free. It would be very helpful.
Thanks

Edit/Note: The links posted in the above reply don't work anymore, sorry

Michael Newdow (who brought the lawsuit that held "under God" should not be in the Pledge of Allegiance) invented the term to refer to a person with unspecified gender - "he" or "she" but not "it". He picked "re" because is rhymes with "he" and "she", and "r" was the only consonent sound that, when followed by "e", did not have a preexisting meaning or homonym (he went through bee, see, dee, fee, gee, he, jee, key, lea, me, knee, pea, qui, *re* sea, tea, vee, we, ye, zee).

Most people find the issue a little silly, and continue to use "they".

As a long time Xian and bible reader, I was reflecting on the problem of evil debate (specifically the one by what's his name on the "public debate" forum), and came to the conclusion that I don't believe that the god who is described in the bible is omni-benevolent, at least as that term is usually defined in the problem of evil debates. Undoubtedly god is described as "good", but hey, I bet someone has said that about you as well.

I find it fascinating personally that each of the three omni's from that debate are to some degree questioned by the biblical writers, in addition to qualities like faithfulness. Which is all to say that merely asking whether god is, in fact, as good as he's cracked up to be, does not place you outside of the judeao-xian tradition at all (though your specific approach to the subject or the answers you reach might).

Now since Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Hebrews 13:8

Why did he stop his murderous killing rampage?

I've often wondered the importance or significance of a God entity having such a natural characteristic as having a sex, except for humans' cultural and dogmatic agendas.
