You don't hear voices in your head, or you don't expect anybody else to believe your account? Or...You don't tell the difference?

How can you be so sure that it is real?
Do you hear a full on voice from God, or is it more like having thoughts that are of divine origin?

I don't hear voices, and I don't have "divine" thoughts, and I don't expect anyone to believe me.

In fact, I don't expect anyone to understand what I am talking about unless it happens to them. It is called an "intellectual apparition" in Church terminology...kind of like when God revealed to Peter that Jesus was the Son of God.

I can't explain it, I'm sorry. Its not something I can even describe.

Well, if you can neglect the fact that people here will probably be highly skeptical... (I'm sure they won't doubt that you believe what you saw/heard/felt)

So, what you're saying is - you actually see an apparition in your mind?

Alright, so you can't explain it. This is a pity though, because as I can see it, the "intellectual apparition" is your only way of communicating with God. It is the only way you can verify for yourself whether what the bible tells you about God is true, so it is kind of important - yes?

A question then - if I had such a thought (or "intellectual apparition") right now, would I be able to discern it from any other thought I've had in the past? I'm sure you'll see what I'm getting at, but I feel it's a valid question.

I think we're getting confused with your responses. Here is what the lady who recently bashed her two sons heads in with a rock said to police:

According to police reports, Mrs. Laney, 38, called 911 late Friday night from her rural home seven miles from town and told a dispatcher she had killed her sons—adding that "God told me to do it."

Now, was that psychosis, was it God, was it Satan, was it real, and how can you tell?

The bible is filled with examples of people hearing God's voice. That's good enough for me.

Just have to make sure the voice you hear is from the right denomination, because it's likely Satan is really the one doing the talking, trying to lead you away from the real Jesus. It can get complicated.

Just kidding.

Personally, I think not.

Then I don't see why you would bring it up at all.

I would guess that we have to look at what the voice is telling us. If it would put blood on our hands, I don't see how that could come from a benevolent God.

That's the point though, isn't it? - ie. there's no difference between the actual experiences themselves, & you have to make your own judgement/guess to decide whether it's from God, Satan, or your own imagination.
