20, and I've never heard that phrase spoken out loud, just said on the internet. But I've always wondered what it meant myself because I thought it had something to do with money. Ah well, I was close.

Heck, I'm unhip too, because I'd never heard of that.

"bling bling" is the annoying sound I make, when teasing my bf that it's time to get out of bed. It's our personal alarm clock noise.

Here you go:

From the following website, pimhats.com:

http://www.pimphats.com/02_bling.htm

That is the site that I ordered my halloween costume from. It's a super dope full length pimp coat and pants, made from purple velvet, lined with satin, and trimmed with fake leopard fur. As part of the package I got 20 pieces of bling (like you see on the link) and two hats.

Here also is a excerpt from another board (author unknown) which parodies the bible and the stories of Jesus as if he were a dope MC (a guy that raps well.) Note that "ice" refers to diamonds and "grill" refers to teeth or smile:

"The Book Of Gangsta -- On Ice"

Gangsta, chapter 2, verse 1-3
1. Ice not thy grille, thy wrist, thy neck, nor the rims of they
chariot, lest thee arouse covetousness in men.

2. And surely, he who iceth muchly, shall get GOT.

3. And Ice not thy neighbor's wife, nor thy neighbor's wife's ass, lest
thee invoke the wrath of thy neighbor.

4. Know ye that the ice of this world shall surely melt away, but that
the ice in my father's crib is abundant. In heaven, the very streets
are paved with platinum, and every smile haveth the bling bling.

5. Greater is the ice above than any that mortal men rocketh.

Edited to add: The web page I posted above sells "costume bling". It's metal, but not precious metal. A real "G" would be wearing platinum, gold, and diamonds.

Old enough to remember the world pre-MTV. Speaking of which, if y'all watched more MTV, you'd know about the bling bling!

Waiting for someone to write "The Rise and Fall of MTV"
If you can find a video on it anymore, it's probably got some bling bling in it, since that's about all they seem to show anymore ... if you can escape The Real World, The Osbournes, or their Sunday "wrestling" crap. Around 2-5am (EDT) you can probably find some actual non-(c)rap videos.

Obviously L.A. (area) is drenched in the hip-hop culture right now so maybe that's why...
Err... I live in Indiana. I first heard 'bling-bling' something like two years ago.

But my brother listens to a lot of rap, and I sometimes do, too.

If newscasters are using it now, it's mainstream. If there's any other words like this you're having trouble with, there's plenty of slang dictionaries out there.
