For a moment I thought I was reading a link to The Onion, because this is so uncharacteristic of the Lynne Cheney I know as former Director of the National Endowment for the Humanities and saboteur extraordinaire of the social studies curricular guidelines.
One of several articles on the social studies fiasco: http://www.hartford-hwp.com/archives/10/006.html [ July 05, 2002: Message edited by: Oresta ]
|

Wow. That's quite an article (thanks).
The naivete of the right on these issues is--what? certainly not surprising. Amusing? Distressing? "We want world history standards." POOF! Standards appear. "No wait, not THAT world history, we meant OUR world history! No Fair! Political Correctness!" "We want more religion in public life." POOF! Religions enter stage right. "No wait, not THOSE religions, we meant OUR religion. Well, and Judaism. And now Islam." |
